The Power of Authentic Video Content in Mortgage Marketing

Mike Faraci, Founder & CEO of Red Button Media, a video content agency for mortgage and real estate professionals · Thu, 15 Feb 2024

Mike Faraci breaks down why most mortgage video content fails and how to fix it — covering authentic on-camera presence, the difference between hook-based and content-based hooks, target client personas, and when/how to include calls to action. Best for LOs who post video sporadically or feel their content isn't generating leads or conversations.

Build content-based hooks, not hook-based content — plan the valuable message first, then write a hook that promises exactly what you deliver.

The playbook

  1. 1. Define your target client persona(s) — who they are, what they fear, what result they want from a mortgage.
  2. 2. Plan the full content first: what specific, honest, valuable information will you give this person with no expectation of return?
  3. 3. Write the hook LAST — make it a direct promise of the value you just planned. No bait-and-switch.
  4. 4. Add a rehook immediately after the hook to deepen curiosity or add specificity.
  5. 5. Deliver the content conversationally, as if speaking to one person across a coffee table — not on a stage.
  6. 6. End with a soft CTA 60-80% of the time ('I'm here if you have questions') and a hard CTA 20-40% of the time ('DM me the word X to get...').
  7. 7. Publish consistently, then test variables — run the same content with three different titles (tips/hacks/strategies) on Mon/Wed/Fri and measure which drives the most meaningful engagement.

Worth quoting

“If you're talking to everyone, you are resonating with no one.”
“A hook is not just to grab attention. A hook is also a promise of what the rest of that content is going to be.”

Best for

LOs who are posting video but getting views without leads — or who avoid video entirely because they don't know what to say or how to be 'camera ready.'
